Political system

Republic, parliamentary democracy (Constitution of 1st January 1993, revised in 1999 to allow for direct universal election of the president):

Head of State: Peter Pellegrini, elected on 6th April 2024

Prime Minister: Robert Fico (SMERSD) since 23rd October 2023. He leads a government coalition with the centreleft HLAS and nationalist SNS parties.

Unicameral parliamentary system: The National Council (Národná rada) is made up of 150 seats. Representatives are elected for four years by proportional representation with a 5% vote threshold.
