The Big Shift

2 August 2019
The big shift is that of a world in which Europe faces new and numerous challenges. Contrary to popular discourse, Jean-Dominique Giuliani, President of the Robert Schuman Foundation, shows that the European Union has the means to address them.

There is a real difference between innovating based on success and bouncing back from failure. Europe has succeeded beyond the expectations of its founders. It can still succeed in guaranteeing its place among the three greatest powers in the world by the end of the century.

The Union is the opposite of an empire and it is not a state. While it rejects the traditional concept of power, it has effective and modern weapons to hand: its law, its freedoms, its scientific capacities, its educational system, its culture and its history. Europe protects already; it must now project itself outwards into the world and, above all, into the future. With more optimism and confidence, it can offer its citizens a bright future.
